Please note, New Avengers (vol. 3) is rated T+.
In New Avengers (vol.3), a select group of heroes, including Namor, face the tough decision of what to do in the face of a dimensional incursion. When two such dimensions collide into the other, the earth of one or the other dimension must be destroyed for the other dimension to survive. Otherwise both dimensions die. The group of heroes, known as the Illuminati, devise a way to destroy the other earth in one of these incursions. When the moment comes to pull the trigger, none of the heroes can do it. Namor can though. Namor is more than understandably ostracized by his fellow Illuminati members after this. He then turns to the most evil people he can think of to help: Thanos and the Black Order. Namor shows that our actions have consequences, and he comes to regret what he has done. When he sees how unnecessary brutal Thanos and the Black Order are in saving their dimension from the incursions, he turns to Doctor Doom for help. Victor tells him, though, it is too late. He should have thought through things better the first time around. We cannot save ourselves. This is what we witness in the world, and it is a key part of our Faith. We need the help of God in our Lord Jesus Christ. Yet the fact we cannot save ourselves is not an excuse for us to behave badly. This is the lesson we gain from many of the writers of the New Testament Epistles, including Paul. Being saved does not give us freedom to commit evil to save those around us, like Namor did in the lead up to Secret Wars (2015). Those actions also have disastrous consequences, as we see for Namor personally. Namor does try to repent, though he finds himself falling back with Thanos and the Black Order eventually again. Our hope is that we will be different. Our hope is that when we are in need of repentance, we will do so and that it will stick.
